Internet Computer Price(ICP)

The Internet Computer (IC) is a blockchain platform built to let fully decentralised applications operate completely on-chain. It uses a canister-based smart contract design intended to boost computing efficiency, lower costs, and enable direct interaction through standard web browsers. The network is governed through a decentralised autonomous organisation (DAO) called the Network Nervous System (NNS), with ICP tokens serving governance and utility purposes. Since the 2021 launch, the ecosystem has grown substantially, now hosting thousands of dapps and handling millions of transactions.

The roadmap centres on extending capabilities and strengthening connections with other blockchain ecosystems. A key initiative is enabling DAO-controlled canisters through Service Nervous Systems (SNS), so individual applications can be governed by their own decentralised autonomous organisations; multiple successful SNS launches have already validated this direction. The platform has already implemented Bitcoin integration, allowing IC canisters to conduct native BTC transactions. Work on Ethereum integration continues, with smart contract compatibility and asset bridges in development. IC has also introduced HTTP outcalls, enabling canisters to communicate with Web2 APIs and services. Infrastructure expansion remains ongoing, including development of new subnet types and additional scalability improvements. Longer-term plans include stronger privacy features, layer-2 scaling options, and broader cross-chain interoperability protocols.

The Internet Computer was created by the DFINITY Foundation, a non-profit organisation responsible for building and maintaining the platform. The effort is guided by specialists in cryptography, computer science, and distributed systems, and the foundation has expanded to more than 200 professionals across research, development, and operations. Continued evolution of the network and its governance is handled through the Network Nervous System (NNS), the DAO that allows token holders to take part in decision-making. Since the network launched, the NNS has processed thousands of proposals, indicating sustained community governance activity. The underlying infrastructure is operated by independent node providers located around the world in different data centres, supporting decentralisation. The network now spans dozens of independent data centres across multiple continents, improving resilience and strengthening decentralised operations.

The Internet Computer runs on a multi-layer protocol stack designed to deliver blockchain functionality that goes beyond conventional networks. The primary building block is the canister: an advanced smart contract that can hold data, carry out complex computation, and deliver web content directly to end users. Rather than relying on typical gas fees, IC uses a reverse-gas structure in which developers pay in advance by converting ICP into cycles that cover compute resources such as storage, CPU time, and bandwidth. Security and interoperability are supported by chain-key cryptography, incorporating threshold signatures and chain-evolution technology. These components make cross-subnet communication secure and allow state certification to be efficient, without forcing users to verify full blockchain histories. Consensus is organised around independent subnets of nodes, each operating as a replicated state machine. The subnet consensus protocol is designed to maintain both safety and liveness under realistic network conditions, assuming fewer than one-third of nodes are faulty. At the network edge, boundary nodes provide access for regular web browsers, while service workers verify responses using chain-key cryptography to preserve security. Recent updates have increased performance and scalability, and some subnets can now handle more than 250,000 queries per second.

ICP is the native token and supports several essential functions across the Internet Computer ecosystem. One major role is governance: holders can stake ICP in the Network Nervous System (NNS) to obtain voting power and earn rewards for participating in decisions about upgrades and network policies. The minimum staking duration is currently 6 months, and longer staking commitments provide higher rewards. ICP also underpins computation through its conversion into cycles, which fund application execution under the reverse-gas approach. This lets developers prepay for the resources their software consumes, including storage, CPU time, and bandwidth. The conversion rate between ICP and cycles is set by the NNS, with the goal of keeping developer operating costs stable while maintaining appropriate incentives for participants. ICP additionally compensates node providers that supply and run the physical infrastructure, with rewards paid monthly according to performance and reliability metrics defined by the NNS. The model has shown strong efficiency, as operating costs have stayed stable even as the network has expanded. Recent governance proposals have further adjusted tokenomics to better match network usage and growth.
