Former Sabah CM hails Johor as benchmark for development

PETALING JAYA: Former Sabah chief minister Salleh Said Keruak said his recent visit to Johor had reinforced his belief that tangible progress can be achieved when leadership is focused, administration is effective and development plans are implemented consistently.

Salleh, who was part of a Sabah Umno delegation on a three-day visit to Johor, said he had the opportunity to observe first-hand the pace of development taking place across the state.

He said construction activity was visible throughout Johor, ranging from industrial parks and housing developments to commercial centres and major infrastructure projects.

“Johor today stands as a strong example of how good governance and strategic execution can deliver meaningful results for the people and the state,” he said in a statement.

“The scale of development reflects more than just economic activity. It demonstrates careful planning, investor confidence and effective cooperation between the state and federal governments.”

Salleh noted that Johor had successfully positioned itself as one of Malaysia’s leading investment destinations, citing strategic initiatives, such as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), that are helping to attract high-quality investments, create jobs and strengthen the state’s long-term economic prospects.

He commended the administration of Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi for focusing on creating a business-friendly environment while continuing to improve infrastructure and public services.

Salleh also said credit should be given to the Barisan Nasional-led Johor government for its commitment to development and economic growth, adding that the benefits were evident in increased employment opportunities, stronger business activity and improved public facilities.

BN formed the previous state government after winning 40 of the 56 seats in the last Johor election in March 2022, with Pakatan Harapan winning 12, Perikatan Nasional three, and Muda one.

Nomination day for the Johor polls is June 27, with early voting on July 7 and polling day set for July 11.
