Natural Language Transactions and Self-Custody
The emergence of self-sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) agents represents a major shift in digital autonomy. Instead of depending on centralized cloud platforms, individuals fully own and control agents that manage their decision logic and personal data. Using decentralized identity (DID) and private data stores, these agents keep users’ information and policies private. Coinfello, which launched March 30 at EthCC in Cannes, is among the first self-sovereign AI agents built to automate on-chain actions. According to a media release, the platform offers a conversational interface that lets users research, execute, and automate transactions using natural language while retaining custody of their wallets and private keys.
To address alignment in a decentralized environment without a central “off” switch, Coinfello co-founder and CEO Jacob Cantele said agents are constrained by strict, user-defined permissions. Agents operate only within granted limits, and owners can revoke permissions or disable agents at any time, substituting corporate oversight with direct personal control.
As governments and businesses look to reduce reliance on foreign cloud providers, decentralized infrastructure presents a path to technological independence. Cantele highlighted that trusted execution environments (TEEs) and confidential computing let users access high-performance hosted agents without giving third parties the power to censor transactions. While the product targets retail users and developers today, Cantele said he anticipates institutional adoption in the future.
Bridging the DeFi Usability Gap
Decentralized finance ( DeFi) participation remains limited by complex tools and the fear of irreversible mistakes.
“Today’s launch marks a shift from passive crypto ownership to active participation. By combining self-custody with a natural language interface, we’re enabling millions of users to interact with DeFi in a way that is both accessible and secure, without compromising control,” said Minchi Park, co-founder and COO.
By pairing self-custody with a natural-language interface, Coinfello aims to make DeFi more accessible and secure without sacrificing control. Now public after a private alpha, Coinfello’s web app uses a delegation model focused on security. For example, macOS devices store private keys in the Secure Enclave, while transactions are shown in plain language for user consent. The app also integrates with Metamask and other EVM wallets and creates smart accounts for automation.
Coinfello also introduced “agent skills” so external AI agents can use the platform as an execution layer. These agents may request delegated permissions to stake, swap, or send tokens within user-defined limits. This allows personal AI agents, such as Openclaw or Claude Code, to perform on-chain operations without the user handing over their private keys.
