Caroline Pham, the Acting Chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), will transition to a new role at MoonPay once her tenure at the agency concludes. MoonPay, a crypto finance company, announced its appointment on Wednesday. Pham has previously indicated her plans to leave once a new CFTC chair is confirmed.

Pham’s Leadership at the CFTC and Crypto Reform

During her time as Acting Chair, Caroline Pham launched several initiatives focused on crypto regulation. Under her leadership, the CFTC introduced the “Crypto Sprint” to clarify industry rules. Pham also emphasized the importance of innovation in crypto markets and financial freedom.

MoonPay CEO Ivan Soto-Wright praised Pham’s leadership, stating, “Her leadership at CFTC has shaped policies that expand financial freedom and crypto innovation.” Pham’s efforts in regulating and guiding crypto markets have been widely recognized. She also worked on making rules clearer and manageable for crypto businesses.

Pham’s departure follows the expected confirmation of Mike Selig as the permanent CFTC chair. Selig’s confirmation hearing is scheduled for this week. Pham will transition to her new position at MoonPay once Selig is confirmed, although an exact start date has not been confirmed yet.

Pham’s New Role at MoonPay Announced

Caroline Pham will join MoonPay as the company’s Chief Legal Officer and Chief Administrative Officer. She had announced her move to MoonPay back in August. The new role marks a shift from her regulatory position to the private sector within the crypto industry.

MoonPay CEO Ivan Soto-Wright emphasized that Pham’s experience would help the company continue expanding its impact in the crypto space. He said, “Now we’ll turn that progress into real outcomes for users and partners globally.” Pham’s transition reflects her continuing influence in the evolving crypto landscape.

CFTC’s Recent Moves Under Pham’s Leadership

Under Pham, the CFTC has been active in refining its crypto regulations. Pham recently led efforts to withdraw outdated guidance on digital asset delivery. This move was part of her broader strategy to simplify complex rules.

Earlier this month, Pham also announced that Bitnomial had become the first exchange to list regulator-approved spot crypto products. This decision was seen as a step toward more comprehensive regulation of crypto exchanges. Pham’s work at the CFTC reflects her efforts to balance innovation with clear regulatory frameworks.
