Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said those who act against Perikatan Nasional’s constitution and official decisions are damaging its brand.
PETALING JAYA: A Bersatu leader says that PAS should not continue to use the Perikatan Nasional logo if it chooses to act out of line with the coalition’s decisions and spirit.
Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said the idea for PN’s establishment came from Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, and it was Bersatu that devised PN’s constitution and logo and registered the coalition.
He said those who act against the coalition’s constitution and official decisions are damaging its brand.
“If a party has cut ties with Bersatu, refuses to abide by joint decisions, and is no longer committed to PN’s identity and direction, the people would be right to ask if it truly seeks to strengthen PN or is moving in a different direction.
“Would it not be more honest and responsible to contest on your own identity, than to continue to use the PN logo while simultaneously weakening the basis of its formation?” he said to FMT.
This comes after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang announced yesterday that Hamzah Zainudin had been reappointed as the opposition leader, and that his new party Parti Wawasan Negara will use the PN logo in the coming state elections.
Marzuki Mohamad, a former aide to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, then accused Hadi of behaving like the “supreme leader” of PN, claiming that Hamzah’s reappointment was not discussed in a PN Supreme Council meeting.
He said Hamzah’s appointment contradicted the PN decision on May 16 to appoint PAS vice-president and PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar to the post.
Last Monday, Hadi said PAS’s central committee had decided to end the party’s political cooperation with Bersatu and would explore forming a new political pact in preparation for the coming elections.
PAS treasurer Iskandar Abdul Samad said his party had the right to use the PN logo based on its status as one of PN’s four component parties besides Bersatu, Gerakan and MIPP.
