JOHOR BAHRU: The proposed amendments to the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) Act 1966 are expected to be tabled in Parliament this year following Cabinet approval of the policy paper.
Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said he had been instructed by deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the rural and regional development minister, to ensure that the amendment process is completed according to schedule so the bill can be tabled this year.
“The process is still at the policy stage. The draft will be shared with all stakeholders, particularly other ministries, for review and feedback before it is brought back to the Cabinet for approval before tabling in Parliament,” he told reporters after an event at Masjid Sultan Iskandar in Bandar Dato Onn here today.
Present were Zahid and Johor BN chairman Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Asyraf said the amendments were important to ensure that the Mara Act was more relevant and able to strengthen the agency’s role in the Bumiputera development agenda.
