First, Which BTCC

Search BTCC and you will mostly get touring cars.
This article is about BTCC the cryptocurrency exchange, launched in June 2011 and now registered in Vilnius, Lithuania.
It is one of the oldest venues still trading, it is built around perpetual futures rather than spot, and it holds a Money Services Business registration in the United States.
That last point matters more than anything else here, and we will come back to it.

The MEXC View

We run MEXC, so this is our argument rather than a neutral referee's.
Our position is narrower than usual on this one.
If you trade spot at any volume, the cost difference is decisive: 0.05% taker against 0.30%, which is $15,000 a year on $500,000 traded monthly, and BTCC publishes no volume tiers that would narrow it.
On catalogue the same pattern holds, at 1,627 coins against 361.
If you trade only perpetuals, the fee case for switching is weak, and if you are a high-volume futures trader BTCC's top tier is cheaper than ours.
And if you are in the United States, this comparison has one answer and it is not us.


One fee basis, and where we took it from


Fee figures for any exchange tend to drift between sources.
CoinGecko's profile field for BTCC currently shows 0.1% maker and 0.1% taker, while BTCC's own fee page, dated 7 August 2026, sets spot at 0.20% maker and 0.30% taker with no volume tiers.
We use the platform's own fee page in both directions, and we date it.
That applies to us too.
MEXC figures in this article come from the official MEXC fee page rather than from older Learn articles, because where those disagree the fee page is the one that governs.
If you take one habit away from this comparison, make it that one: check the fee page, note the date on it, and treat every secondary figure as a lead rather than a fact.


Spot is where the money is


BTCC charges 0.20% to makers and 0.30% to takers on spot, and applies the same rate to every user regardless of volume.
MEXC charges 0.00% to makers and 0.05% to takers, falling to 0.04% with MX deduction.
Put $500,000 of monthly taker volume through each.
BTCC costs $1,500 a month, or $18,000 a year.
MEXC costs $250 a month, or $3,000 a year.
That is a $15,000 annual difference on identical activity, and because BTCC publishes no spot volume tiers, trading more does not close it.

On futures the two are close, and at the top BTCC wins


BTCC's published perpetual fees start at 0.03% maker and 0.048% taker.
MEXC's standard perpetual fees are 0.010% maker and 0.040% taker, with a 0.020% taker rate on the BTCUSDT special tier.
At the entry tier MEXC is cheaper, by 0.008 of a percentage point on the taker side.
At the top of the ladder that reverses: BTCC publishes 0.01% maker and 0.015% taker at VIP7, which undercuts our BTCUSDT special rate.
Here is what that means on a real position.
Open $1,000 of margin at 20x, giving $20,000 of notional exposure, and close it, paying taker on both sides.
MEXC costs $16.00 at the standard rate and $8.00 on BTCUSDT.
BTCC costs $19.20 at its entry tier.
Three dollars on a round trip is not a reason to move an account.
Scaled to $500,000 of monthly notional the annual difference is about $480, against $15,000 on the spot side.
If perpetuals are the only thing you trade, we would rather you knew that than found it out after switching.


Leverage, stated precisely


Both platforms sit at the high end of retail leverage, and both publish a headline number that only applies to specific contracts at specific position sizes.
BTCC's published trading guides describe leverage of up to 500x on selected perpetual contracts, and other pages on its site quote a lower figure, so check the contract specification for the market you intend to trade.
MEXC's BTCUSDT risk-limit table starts at 500x for positions up to roughly 316,730 USDT, then steps down to 200x, 100x, 50x, 20x and 10x as the position grows.
The tier table is the honest version of a leverage claim, because the headline figure disappears the moment your position gets large.

Where BTCC Is the Better Choice

Three things, and the first one is decisive for a large share of readers.
It can legally serve markets we cannot.
BTCC holds a US Money Services Business registration, and CoinGecko records that registration on its exchange profile.
MEXC does not serve the United States at all.
We could not confirm BTCC's current status in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area from a primary source, so we are not making a claim either way.
If you live in one of them, BTCC is a real option and MEXC is not, and no amount of fee arithmetic changes that.
Cheaper futures at the top of the ladder.
A VIP7 taker rate of 0.015% is below our BTCUSDT special rate of 0.020%.
For a high-volume perpetuals trader who reaches that tier, BTCC is the cheaper venue on the product it is built around.
Fifteen years of continuous operation with no breach we could find on the public record.
BTCC has been trading since June 2011, which makes it the oldest venue in this batch of comparisons by six years.
It has published monthly Merkle-tree Proof of Reserves reports since April 2025, most recently a 140% total reserve ratio dated 15 August 2026.

Is BTCC Safe? What a Third Party Could and Could Not Verify

This section exists because half of this comparison could only be checked on one side.
CoinGecko tracks MEXC's derivatives book at 1,214 perpetual pairs with $12.0 billion of open interest, tracks $618.0 million of exchange reserves, and carries a CORE3 cybersecurity rating of three stars out of five.
For BTCC it holds none of those four figures.
That is not the same as saying the numbers are bad.
It means an independent party has not published them, and BTCC's own materials give different perpetual contract counts in different places, so we have not quoted one.
We would treat that score with care, because it scores spot activity on a platform whose main business is derivatives, and it will understate a futures-first venue by design.
The spot catalogue is the one breadth figure both sides can be measured on, and there MEXC lists roughly four and a half times as many coins.

Where You Can Actually Sign Up

MEXC does not serve the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada or the European Economic Area.
BTCC holds a US Money Services Business registration and accepts US users.
For US readers the answer is BTCC or another locally registered venue, and we would rather say so plainly than write a comparison that quietly ignores where most English-language readers live.
Neither platform holds Korean virtual asset service provider registration, and both appear on the list of undeclared operators published by Upbit dated 31 August 2026.

CoinGecko's regulation field records a US Money Services Business registration for BTCC and an International Crypto License in the Comoros for MEXC.
Neither is authorisation in the European sense, and a Comoros licence in particular is a light-touch registration rather than a supervised regime.
