South Korea’s Crypto Income Tax May Be Delayed for a Fourth Time as 2027 Implementation Faces Postponement
According to Odaily Planet Daily, South Korea’s presidential office is leaning toward postponing the virtual asset income tax currently scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027. If implemented, this would mark the fourth delay. Democratic Party lawmaker Park Min-gyu has proposed an amendment to postpone taxation until 2029, while the opposition People Power Party also supports a delay. Under the current plan, income from virtual asset transfers and lending would be taxed at 22% after a basic exemption of KRW 2.5 million, although the postponement remains under review and has not yet been finalized.
