Selangor to roll out RM100 monthly aid for 50,000 families under Kita Selangor vouchers

SHAH ALAM, June 15 — A total of 50,000 low-income families in Selangor will receive cash aid of RM100 a month for six months under the Kita Selangor Voucher initiative, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced today.

He said the initiative, which will begin on June 30, is part of the RM140 million Selangor Resilience Strengthening Package Phase 1 unveiled on April 16 to help residents cope with global economic uncertainty, rising living costs and the impact of the global supply crisis.

Recipients will be identified through existing databases, including the Selangor Well-being Life Assistance Initiative (Bingkas) and the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU), to ensure the assistance reaches those who need it most.

“We will begin reviewing the list of recipients on June 22 and 23 before notifying those who qualify.

“Our target is for recipients to start receiving the RM100 monthly assistance from June 30, with payments continuing for six months,” he said after launching the package at the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) at the Selangor State Secretariat building here.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said an additional RM5 million had been allocated for the 2026 Jelajah Ehsan Rahmah (JER) programme through the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS), bringing the total allocation to RM10 million, with the programme set to be held twice in each state constituency from this month.

To encourage greater use of public transportation and reduce dependence on conventional fuels, he said the state government would also offer a RM30 monthly public transport subsidy to 50,000 users through the Nine application.

“The subsidy, which takes effect today, can be used for the state’s demand-responsive transit (DRT) van network for six months. It will also be expanded to other public transport modes, including the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and KTM Komuter services, in the next phase,” he said.

Amirudin said the state government would also implement a free breakfast programme for 120,000 students in need at 965 schools under the Selangor Education Department and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department to help ease parents’ financial burden.

Meanwhile, he said Phase 2 of the Selangor Resilience Strengthening Package, which will focus on protecting the state’s industrial sector, would be tabled at a special State Legislative Assembly sitting on June 19, 22 and 23.

He noted that the state government had announced during the April 28 sitting that it would introduce several initiatives to strengthen Selangor’s manufacturing and services subsectors to mitigate the impact of the global supply crisis, enhance industrial competitiveness and spur economic growth.

Amirudin also clarified that the special sitting would focus solely on discussing the resilience package and was unrelated to any dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly. — Bernama
