Coinbase's simple trades carry a Coinbase fee, put at 1.875% on Coinbase's disclosures page and varying by payment method, plus a spread; simple limit orders add a 1% execution fee, and Coinbase Advanced charges 0.40% maker and 0.60% taker at the entry tier with no spread.
So the same $1,000 order costs $4.00 as an Advanced maker and $28.75 plus spread as a simple limit order.

Key Takeaways
  • Coinbase runs three price lists: simple trades pay a Coinbase fee, 1.875% on its disclosures page and varying by payment method, plus a spread; Coinbase Advanced charges 0.40% maker and 0.60% taker with no spread; Coinbase One swaps the simple-trade fee for a subscription.
  • Simple limit orders carry a separate 1% execution fee that Coinbase One does not waive, so the same $1,000 order costs $4.00 as an Advanced maker and $28.75 plus spread as a simple limit order.
  • Advanced fees fall with 30-day volume, from 0.60% taker and 0.40% maker below $10,000 to 0.04% and 0.00% above $400 million, with tiers refreshed hourly.
  • Coinbase One costs $4.99, $29.99 or $299.99 a month, and at the 1.875% rate it only beats paying per trade above roughly $266, $1,599 or $16,000 of simple trades a month.
  • Sending crypto out costs Coinbase's estimate of the network fee, plus 0.01% on USDT capped at 20 USDT and 0.2% on Lightning, while staking carries a 35% commission on rewards.
  • In markets both platforms serve, MEXC's 0% spot maker fee and $0.50 spot taker fee on $1,000 undercut every Coinbase spot route, while Coinbase's promotional perpetual rates stay competitive and MEXC does not serve the US, UK, EEA, Canada or Singapore.

Why the fee page does not tell you what a Coinbase trade costs

Most searches for Coinbase fees end at one of two numbers, 0.60% or 1.49%, and the two come from different price lists.
Coinbase's disclosures page publishes definitions rather than a figure for your order: the fee depends on payment method, order size, market conditions, jurisdiction and asset, and the spread appears only on the preview screen.
The Coinbase Advanced fee ladder sits behind a sign-in.
Many third-party guides still quote a flat $0.99 to $2.99 schedule that does not appear on Coinbase's current disclosures page.
This guide prices every Coinbase price list on the same $1,000 using Coinbase's own published pages, all retrieved on 7 September 2026, and then, in the second half, sets the result against MEXC's schedule.

Data verified as of 7 September 2026 against Coinbase's pricing and fees disclosures, the Coinbase Exchange fee schedule, the Coinbase One page and Coinbase Help.
Two rows deserve a second look before any of the maths below: the 1.875% figure is the one rate Coinbase names on its disclosures page, and the 1% limit-order execution fee is the one most guides miss.

The three price lists behind every Coinbase trade

Coinbase sells the same coins through three pricing systems, and the price you pay depends on which screen you use rather than on which coin you buy.
The simple screen prices in a fee and a spread, Advanced prices from the order book, and Coinbase One replaces the simple-trade fee with a subscription.

Price list 1: simple trades in the app

Coinbase's disclosures state that fees on simple buys, sells and converts are calculated when you place the order and are influenced by payment method, order size, market conditions, jurisdiction and asset.
The one rate the page names is a 1.875% Coinbase fee that varies by payment method.
A spread is also included in the quoted price, and in the exchange rate on converts, and Coinbase says it may retain any excess spread.
Simple limit orders then add a separate execution fee of 1% of the amount traded, charged on each limit buy and each limit sell.
At that rate, a $1,000 market buy is $18.75 before the spread.
On a $1,000 limit buy it is $28.75 before the spread, and a limit round trip costs $57.50 before the spread.
Coinbase adds that it occasionally tests changes to fees and spread across regions, assets, order sizes and trade types, which is why the preview screen, not any guide, is the final word for your order.

Price list 2: Coinbase Advanced

Coinbase Advanced routes orders to the Coinbase Exchange order book, so no spread is included and the cost is a maker or taker fee set by your trailing 30-day USD volume.
At the entry tier, below $10,000 of 30-day volume, a maker order pays 0.40% and a taker order pays 0.60%.
A $1,000 limit order that rests on the book costs $4.00, and a $1,000 market order costs $6.00.
The ladder then steps down: 0.25% maker and 0.40% taker from $10,000, 0.15% and 0.25% from $50,000, 0.10% and 0.20% from $100,000, 0.08% and 0.18% from $1 million, and 0.00% maker with 0.04% taker above $400 million.
Tiers update hourly, the tier at the moment you place the order is the one that applies, and a partially filled order pays taker on the immediate portion and maker on the rest.
Stablepairs are priced separately at 0.00% maker and 0.0045% taker for standard users, but USDT-USDC and USDT-USD stopped receiving stablepair pricing on 1 May 2025.
Coinbase publishes each market's order book, bid, ask and depth in real time and states that it has no payment-for-order-flow relationships with market makers.
One sourcing note: Coinbase's Advanced fees Help page sends users to a sign-in page for the complete structure, so the ladder above is taken from the public Coinbase Exchange fee schedule for the same order book.

Price list 3: Coinbase One

Coinbase One is a subscription that removes the Coinbase fee on simple trades in exchange for a monthly price.
Basic costs $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year and covers up to $500 of simple trades a month.
Preferred costs $29.99 a month or $299.99 a year, covers up to $10,000 a month, returns 25% of Coinbase Advanced spot fees in USDC up to 100 USDC a month, and waives Coinbase's fees on domestic US wires.
Premium costs $299.99 a month or $2,999.99 a year with no cap on either the zero-fee trades or the 25% Advanced rebate.
Three costs survive the subscription.
The spread still applies to every simple trade, the 1% limit-order execution fee is not waived, and Advanced fees are only rebated rather than removed.
Coinbase Advanced fees and derivatives are excluded from the zero-fee benefit, and DEX trades still carry Coinbase's separate DEX service fee plus external network fees.
At the 1.875% rate the maths is simple: Basic pays for itself above roughly $266 of simple trades a month, Preferred above roughly $1,599, and Premium only above about $16,000.
Anyone able to use Advanced instead pays 0.40% or 0.60% with no spread, which is below 1.875% plus spread at every volume, so the subscription mainly serves readers who want to stay on the simple screen.
Coinbase One is sold in the United States and 41 other markets, including the United Kingdom, most EEA countries, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Singapore and Switzerland.

Coinbase Withdrawal Fees, Deposit Fees and the Charges Nobody Lists

Sending crypto out

Coinbase charges a fee based on its estimate of the network fee for a stand-alone wallet-to-wallet send, and it notes that the fee it pays may differ from that estimate because of batching or changes in congestion.
The disclosures add that, thanks to batching, the total estimated network fees paid by users in a batch may exceed the final network fee Coinbase pays.
Transfers between two Coinbase users' primary balances are free.
USDT withdrawals carry an extra processing fee of 0.01% of the amount, capped at 20 USDT, so sending 1,000 USDT adds 0.10 USDT on top of the network fee.
Bitcoin sent over the Lightning Network is charged a 0.2% processing fee instead of an on-chain fee.

Cash in and cash out

On the Coinbase Exchange schedule, ACH deposits and withdrawals are free, USD wires cost $10 in and $25 out, SEPA costs €0.15 in and nothing out, SWIFT in USD costs $25 each way, and SWIFT in GBP is free in and £1 out.
The app shows any method fee on the preview before you confirm, and Coinbase's disclosures say the charge depends on the payment method you pick.
Instant card cashouts through Visa Fast Funds or Mastercard Send typically arrive in about 30 minutes and can take up to 24 hours, with the fee displayed on the cash-out screen.

Staking, USDC conversion and asset recovery

Staking is free to enter, but Coinbase keeps a standard 35% commission on rewards for ADA, ATOM, AVAX, DOT, ETH, MATIC, SOL and XTZ.
Coinbase One members pay 31.75%, 28.5% or 25.25% by tier on six of those assets, and instant unstaking carries a fee disclosed at the time of the request.
Converting USDC to USD is free up to $5 million of net conversions in a rolling 30 days and costs 0.10% above that.
If you send an unsupported asset to Coinbase, a recovery attempt costs the network fee plus 5% of any value above $100.
Spending with the Coinbase Card carries no transaction fee, but a spread applies when the card sells crypto to settle a purchase.

Coinbase derivatives fees: three channels, three schedules

Coinbase offers perpetual futures through three separate channels, and each publishes its own fee.
US residents trade perpetual-style futures through Coinbase Financial Markets under CFTC oversight, with fees Coinbase describes as low as 0.02% per contract, a $0.15 minimum per contract, and up to 10x intraday exposure on crypto contracts.
Retail traders in eligible non-US jurisdictions trade perpetuals on Coinbase Advanced at a promotional 0% maker and 0.03% taker, and Coinbase's derivatives page advertises 0% and 0% in select non-US markets.
Institutional and API clients on Coinbase International Exchange start at 0.020% maker and 0.040% taker at Public Tier 10, reach 0.000% and 0.015% at Tier 1, and pay a 1.0% liquidation fee on any amount liquidated.
Perpetual futures positions can be liquidated in full, and the promotional rates can end without notice.

For how the major perpetual venues compare on fees, pairs and leverage, see our derivatives exchange comparison.

How to pay less on Coinbase

Six choices decide most of a Coinbase bill.
Trade on Coinbase Advanced instead of the simple screen, because a $1,000 market order costs $6.00 there against $18.75 plus spread in the app.
Rest limit orders on Advanced to pay the 0.40% maker rate, but never place a limit order on the simple screen, where it adds a 1% execution fee.
Fund the account by ACH or SEPA rather than card, and read the payment-method fee on the preview, since Coinbase says the fee varies by method.
Run the Coinbase One numbers against your own volume: Basic clears its cost above about $266 of simple trades a month, Preferred above about $1,599, and the Preferred rebate on Advanced stops at 100 USDC a month.
Send USDT in larger, less frequent transfers, because the 0.01% processing fee caps at 20 USDT, and use Coinbase-to-Coinbase transfers, which are free.
Watch the tier if you are close to a threshold, since volume from every order book counts and the tier refreshes hourly.

Coinbase fees by region: US, UK and EU

United States

Coinbase is the licensed option in its home market: Coinbase Global is listed on Nasdaq, and its US app now lists stocks, prediction markets and CFTC-regulated perpetual-style futures alongside spot trading and staking.
MEXC's User Agreement lists the United States as a prohibited jurisdiction, so for US readers this section, and the MEXC comparison later in this guide, are information only.

United Kingdom

Coinbase's UK entity, CB Payments Ltd, has been registered with the Financial Conduct Authority as a cryptoasset firm since February 2025, and Coinbase One is sold in the UK.
MEXC Global Ltd appears on the FCA warning list as an unauthorised firm, and the United Kingdom is a prohibited jurisdiction in MEXC's User Agreement, so UK readers should treat every MEXC figure here as reference material.

European Union

Coinbase Luxembourg S.A. holds a MiCA licence granted by Luxembourg's CSSF on 20 June 2025, which lets Coinbase serve all 27 EU member states under one authorisation.
MEXC holds no MiCA authorisation and has ended services for residents of the European Economic Area, so EU readers should compare fees only among providers listed on the ESMA MiCA register.
Within the EEA, Coinbase's own three price lists remain the relevant comparison, and the Advanced maker rate is the cheapest route on this schedule.

How other platforms handle regional access is covered in our full guide to crypto exchange alternatives.

Scam warning: fake fee pages and fake support numbers

Searches for Coinbase fees, verification and withdrawals return pages on unrelated domains, including university file uploads and book-quote sites, that repeat a phone number and claim to be Coinbase support.
Coinbase states that legitimate verification flows only run on coinbase.com domains and that it does not accept identity documents by email.
The reason impersonation is so common is public record: in May 2025 Coinbase disclosed that bribed overseas support agents had copied data on fewer than 1% of its monthly transacting users, refused a $20 million extortion demand and pledged to reimburse customers tricked into sending funds to the attackers.
Three habits avoid most of the risk.
Read fee figures only on the exchange's own domain and compare them with the amount on your preview screen.
Never call a number found in a search snippet, since neither Coinbase nor MEXC will phone you first to ask for a password, a code or a transfer.
Treat any request to move funds to a "safe wallet" as fraud, whichever platform the caller names.

Coinbase vs MEXC on the same $1,000

The second half of this guide sets Coinbase's schedule against MEXC, which publishes this article, so read the disclosure at the end alongside the numbers.
Geography comes first: MEXC's User Agreement excludes residents of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Singapore, MEXC has ended services in the European Economic Area, and this guide treats Australian readers as information only, so in all of those markets Coinbase is the answer and the table below is for reference.
For readers in markets that both platforms serve, Brazil being one example, the comparison is live.

Same as above
Data verified as of 7 September 2026 against Coinbase's pricing and fees disclosures, the Coinbase Exchange fee schedule, the Coinbase One and derivatives pages, and the MEXC fee overview.
On a $1,000 spot limit order, Coinbase Advanced charges $4.00 and MEXC charges $0.00.
On a $1,000 spot market order the gap is $6.00 against $0.50, and against the simple screen it is $18.75 plus spread against $0.50.
Perpetuals are closer than the spot rows: on $1,000 of BTC notional a taker fill costs $0.30 on Coinbase Advanced's promotional rate, or nothing in the select markets where Coinbase advertises 0% and 0%, against $0.20 on MEXC's BTCUSDT special rate, $0.40 on a regular MEXC pair and $0.00 on MEXC's tagged 0 Fees perpetuals.
One caveat belongs in the same breath: orders sent to MEXC futures through the API are priced at 0.060% maker and 0.080% taker since 1 June 2026, above every Coinbase channel in the table.

Sending USDT out: an estimate against a flat fee

Coinbase builds a USDT send from two parts, its estimate of the network fee plus the 0.01% processing fee, so 1,000 USDT on Ethereum costs the network estimate plus 0.10 USDT.
MEXC charges a flat 0.094 USDT on Ethereum with an 8 USDT minimum withdrawal, 0.5 USDT on Tron with a 2 USDT minimum, 0.01 USDT on BNB Smart Chain and 0.18 USDT on Solana, all as displayed on 7 September 2026.
Whether Coinbase's Ethereum estimate lands above or below 0.094 USDT depends on congestion at the moment you send, so the honest comparison is structural: one fee moves with the chain and one is fixed in advance.

Scaling it up: $500,000 a month

The pain on Coinbase is that the cheap route requires a screen change and a tier climb: the simple screen prices in 1.875% plus spread, and Advanced starts at 0.60% taker until your volume moves you down the ladder.
MEXC prices the two sides of the book differently from the first trade.
Its standard spot rate is 0.0000% maker and 0.0500% taker, the MX deduction takes the taker rate to 0.0400%, and a separate "0 Fees" tag marks pairs that cost nothing on either side.
On 7 September 2026 that tag covered more than 380 spot pairs and more than 380 USDT-margined perpetuals, and BTCUSDT and ETHUSDT perpetuals carried a special rate of 0.000% maker with 0.020% and 0.010% taker.
All of these figures come from the MEXC fee overview, which also notes that the MX deduction stops once the MX balance is used up and that some pairs are excluded from it.
Now the same trader on both venues, turning over $500,000 a month in spot.
That volume lands in Coinbase Advanced's $100,000 to $1 million tier at 0.20% taker and 0.10% maker, so a year of taker orders costs $12,000 and a year of maker orders costs $6,000, less at most $1,200 a year from the Coinbase One Preferred rebate.
On MEXC the same year costs $3,000 as taker orders, $2,400 with the MX deduction, and $0 as maker orders.
Move $500,000 a month into BTC perpetual taker orders instead: $1,800 a year on Coinbase Advanced's promotional 0.03%, $1,200 on MEXC's BTCUSDT special rate, and $4,800 on MEXC if the orders go through the API.
Three limits keep that comparison honest.
First, where Coinbase's 0% and 0% perpetual promotion applies, Coinbase beats MEXC's BTCUSDT special rate outright, and its 0.03% rate is below MEXC's 0.040% on regular pairs.
Second, Coinbase's order books are published in full and its fiat rails run through licensed entities in the US, the UK and the EU, while MEXC holds none of those licences and sits on the FCA warning list.
Third, the 0 Fees tag is a list that changes, and untagged pairs pay the regular MEXC rates above.
For a spot trader outside Coinbase's licensed markets who works with limit orders, the fee gap is real money every month.
For the wider field, including Kraken, OKX and Bybit, see our crypto exchange fee comparison and the quarterly exchange fee index.

Who should trade where

Stay on Coinbase if you live in the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, Canada or Singapore, where MEXC does not serve you, and in Australia, where MEXC is not on the AUSTRAC register and this guide makes no recommendation.
Stay on Coinbase as well if you want bank rails, a debit card, staking, stocks and prediction markets inside one account, or if a Coinbase One membership already covers most of your simple trades within the monthly cap.
Choose MEXC if you live in a market both platforms serve, most of your spot orders are limit orders, you trade BTC, ETH or the tagged 0 Fees perpetuals through the web or app, or you move USDT often enough for a flat fee to matter.
The simplest check is to open the fee overview, filter for 0 Fees, and see whether the pairs you trade are on the list.
If you run futures bots through an API, price the MEXC API schedule of 0.060% and 0.080% before assuming any saving.
Readers deciding between the two platforms on more than fees can use our MEXC vs Coinbase comparison and, for a wider set of options, our guide to Coinbase alternatives.

The MEXC View

We publish this guide on MEXC Learn, so we have an obvious interest in how the comparison reads, and our review methodology explains how we handle that.
Three things we will not claim.
MEXC does not match Coinbase on regulatory standing: Coinbase holds a MiCA licence, an FCA registration and CFTC registrations for its US derivatives business, while MEXC is excluded from those markets by its own terms and appears on the FCA warning list.
MEXC does not win every fee row: Coinbase's promotional perpetual rates undercut MEXC's BTCUSDT special rate where they apply, and MEXC's API futures rate of 0.060% and 0.080% is above every Coinbase channel.
The 0 Fees list is a count taken on 7 September 2026, and pairs move on and off it.
Where the numbers favour MEXC, they are not marginal: a free maker side on spot, a $0.50 rather than $6.00 market order, a $0.50 rather than $18.75 plus spread simple buy, and a fixed USDT withdrawal fee.
Our MEXC review lists the other trade-offs, including the regions where MEXC is not available.

Our full Coinbase review covers the same trade-offs from the Coinbase side.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Coinbase charge on a $1,000 buy?
At the 1.875% Coinbase fee named in Coinbase's disclosures retrieved 7 September 2026, a simple market buy costs $18.75 plus a spread.
The same order on Coinbase Advanced costs $6.00 as a taker or $4.00 as a maker.

What is the Coinbase spread?
The spread is a margin Coinbase includes in the quoted price of simple buys, sells and converts, visible through the preview tooltip.
Coinbase Advanced orders trade the order book directly, so no spread is included.

Does Coinbase charge a fee on limit orders?
Simple limit orders in the app carry a 1% execution fee on each limit buy and sell, on top of the Coinbase fee, and Coinbase One does not waive it.
Limit orders on Coinbase Advanced pay the maker rate instead, 0.40% at the entry tier.

What are Coinbase Advanced fees?
Coinbase Advanced charges 0.60% taker and 0.40% maker below $10,000 of 30-day volume, stepping down to 0.04% and 0.00% above $400 million.
Tiers update hourly based on trailing volume.

Is Coinbase One worth it?
At the 1.875% rate, Basic breaks even above about $266 of simple trades a month and Preferred above about $1,599, but the spread and the 1% limit fee still apply.
Anyone able to use Advanced pays less without a subscription.

Does Coinbase charge withdrawal fees?
Crypto sends cost Coinbase's estimate of the network fee, USDT adds 0.01% capped at 20 USDT, and Lightning sends cost 0.2%.
ACH cash-outs are free on the Coinbase Exchange schedule, and USD wires cost $25.

Does Coinbase charge deposit fees?
Transfers between Coinbase users are free, ACH deposits are free, USD wires cost $10 and SEPA deposits cost €0.15 on the Coinbase Exchange schedule.
Card and other method fees appear on the preview screen.

What is the Coinbase staking fee?
Coinbase keeps a 35% commission on staking rewards for ADA, ATOM, AVAX, DOT, ETH, MATIC, SOL and XTZ.
Coinbase One members pay 31.75%, 28.5% or 25.25% by tier on six of those assets.

Is Coinbase cheaper than MEXC?
Not on spot: MEXC charges 0% maker and 0.050% taker against Coinbase Advanced's 0.40% and 0.60% at the entry tier.
Coinbase's promotional 0% and 0.03% perpetual rate is competitive, and MEXC does not serve the US, UK, EEA, Canada or Singapore.

Disclosure and risk notice

This article is published by MEXC Learn, and MEXC competes with Coinbase for traders in the markets both platforms serve.
MEXC is not available to residents of the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, Canada, Singapore and other regions listed in its User Agreement; see the MEXC restricted countries list.
Crypto trading carries a high risk of loss, and perpetual futures positions can be liquidated in full.
All fee figures were verified against official pages on 7 September 2026 and can change without notice; nothing here is financial advice.
If you live in a market MEXC serves and the numbers above match how you trade, the next step takes about three minutes.
