  • Zcash received a big adoption boost in the past week after Robinhood listed ZEC, expanding access to 27 million users.
  • Native ZEC swaps have been enabled on THORChain, extending DeFi access, while cybersecurity titan Taylor Hornby has joined to fortify security.

It has been a big week for Zcash, one of the original privacy-focused crypto networks, with new integrations, an expansion in retail access, and technical upgrades that boosted its security and privacy features.

One of the most significant announcements was a new listing on Robinhood that gave easy access to ZEC for over 27 million traders. ZEC Hub, the largest community hub for the Zcash ecosystem, says the listing “increases the asset’s visibility, makes it easier for new users to access, and could help bring more liquidity to the market.”

The listing comes after a prolonged crackdown on privacy-enhancing cryptos like Zcash and Monero. Leading global exchanges like OKX, Binance, HTX and Kraken have delisted multiple privacy coins to comply with new regulations.

The listing also fueled a ZEC rally that has seen it gain over 40% in the past 30 days, the eighth-highest gain in the top 100 cryptos. The token trades at $351.64 at press time, rising 5.6% in the past day to recover from a midweek dip that bottomed out at $319.2. Trading volume has also shot up 65% to surpass $600 million in the past day as social sentiment continues to flip bullish.

Despite the sharp rally in the past month, ZEC is still trading 31% below its 2026 high of $512.55, which it hit on the first day of the year.

THORChain Integration and FROST v3.0.0 Release

Zcash has also had a massive week on the technical front. The most significant event was the release of FROST v3.0.0 by the Zcash Foundation. FROST, or Flexible Round-Optimized Schnorr Threshold signatures, allows a group of parties to share a single ZCash address. Each party owns a portion of the private key and must all sign to authorize a transaction.

The third version of FROST came with critical security fixes. One of these is automatic data wiping; previously, sensitive data could remain in the signing device for extended amounts of time, but with FROST v3.0.0, the data is automatically wiped. The signing keys can also no longer be copied within the code.

The new version also now checks every aspect of a multi-party signature before aggregating, boosting security.

FROST v3.0.0 is a stable release that is ready for public production use. Wallet and app developers can immediately plug into it on Crates.io, the standard registry for Rust developers.

Still on the technical side, THORChain announced that it now supports ZCash, with ZEC trading expected to start later this month. Native ZEC swaps on THORChain are already live.

“Now, with THORChain entering the picture, ZEC gets another access point outside of centralized exchanges. This could help bring more liquidity, make native swaps easier, and place Zcash in another relevant corner of DeFi,” ZEC Hub explains.

Zcash Invests in Security Amid AI Threat

With AI bringing down the cost of cyberattacks and arming attackers with powerful tools, Zcash is investing in security to ward off threats. In the past week, Shielded Labs has added industry veteran Taylor Hornby as a security consultant. Shielded Labs is the organization that handles security issues on Zcash.

Shielded’s executive director, Jason McGee, said the company is boosting its security efforts after a white-hat hacker used AI to discover a critical vulnerability that had gone undetected for six years. Just days later, three other researchers unearthed similar vulnerabilities. While the Shielded team has patched them, McGee believes proactive defense is the best tactic.

Hornby’s role will be to identify vulnerabilities and assist the Shielded team in handling them. Hornby has been involved with Zcash since before its launch and has worked on some of the core code.

Yesterday, McGee welcomed yet another engineer to boost security: Giovanni Carlino.

Carlino commented.
