web3 future 10

Many Web3 projects across diverse categories have undergone notable setbacks in 2026 up till now, leading many players to quit the market. In this respect, MilkyWay, Bloktopia, and Nifty Gateway are the earliest among the Web3 initiatives to face shutdowns during the 1st quarter of this year. As per the data from Phoenix Group, Polynomial, ZeroLend, Parsec, Step Finance, Echooo, Slingshot, Angle, DataHaven, Tally, Dmail, and Magic Eden Wallet are also on the list. These shutdowns indicate the lack of interest among investors and communities around the respective projects.

MilkyWay, Bloktopia, Nifty Gateway, and Polynomial, Precede Web3 Initiatives to Shut Down in Q1 2026

Commencing the list of Web3 projects witnessing shutdowns in Q1 2026 is MilkyWay. It operated as a Comos-based DeFi project that dealt with liquid staking as well as staking to benefit modular blockchains. However, the initiative could not bear the unexpected market conditions and ultimately proceeded with its shutdown on the 5th of January. Following that, Bloktopia, a platform in the category of GameFi, is the 2nd name on the list of the unsuccessful Web3 projects. It served as a Polygon network-built decentralized metaverse platform. The shutdown of this project occurred on the 6th of January.

Subsequently, Nifty Gateway also witnessed its shutdown within the month of January. It worked as a digital NFT marketplace, facilitating the creation, sales, and purchases of the unique non-fungible tokens. Specifically, the project conducted its shutdown on January 24. Then, the next name is Polynomial, an L2 project for hyperscaling on-chain trading of derivatives. The blockchain initiative tackled liquidity and scalability challenges posed to the DeFi ecosystem. The shutdown of its operations took place on February 14.

After that, during the same month, another shutdown of a Web3 project, named ZeroLend, took place. The DeFi initiative ZeroLend provided decentralized borrowing and lending services. It saw the shutdown of the operations thereof on February 16. The list then includes Parsec as the 6th among the projects to shut down in 2026’s 1st quarter. The key DeFi project focused on the delivery of comprehensive analytics. Step Finance’s shutdown took place on the 24th of February. The Solana blockchain-built project provided portfolio management services and data analytics.

DataHaven and Tally Join Growing List of Shutdowns

Coming after that, set to shut down on February 28, Echoo provided decentralized and self-custodial wallet services for Web3 smart contracts. Another DeFi project to quit the market is Slingshot, as it will wind down its activities on the same day. It operated as a decentralized crypto trading entity and DEX aggregator. Subsequently, March began with another Web3 project shutdown, as the DeFi platform Angle concluded the provision of services on the 4th of the month. It worked as a decentralized, over-collateralized, and capital-efficient stablecoin protocol.

The same month witnessed 2 other shutdowns in the Web3 landscape. One of them was DataHaven, a noteworthy blockchain infrastructure project. Delivered infrastructrue for applications led by human interaction and AI. Additionally, another player was the blockchain initiative, Tally. The blockchain entity for launching tokens, raising capital, and more such services.

Dmail and Magic Eden Wallet Bottom List of Web3 Project Shutdowns of Q1 2026

Moving on, Phoenix Group’s list of the Web3 projects shutting down within the Q1 2026 also adds Dmail and Magic Eden Wallet. Particularly, Dmail has proceeded with the shutdown of its services on the 3rd of April. It served as an AI-powered, decentralized platform providing infrastructure for blockchain communication, including encrypted emails, marketing services, and unified notifications. Concluding the list is Magic Eden Wallet. It operated as a non-custodial Web3 wallet for cross-chain operations. The primary functions of the wallet included the collection, management, and trading of NFTs. Finally, the project has scheduled its shutdown on the 1st of May.

Vitalik Buterin Reveals Ethereum’s Bold Plan to Stay Quantum-Secure and Simple!

Buterin unveils Ethereum’s strategy to tackle quantum security challenges ahead. Ethereum focuses on simplifying architecture while boosting security for users. Ethereum’s market stability grows as Buterin’s roadmap gains investor confidence. Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin has unveiled his long-term vision for the blockchain, focusing on making Ethereum quantum-secure while maintaining its simplicity for users. Buterin presented his roadmap at the Japanese Developer Conference, and splits the future of Ethereum into three phases: short-term, mid-term, and long-term. Buterin’s most ambitious goal for Ethereum is to safeguard the blockchain against the threats posed by quantum computing.  The danger of such future developments is that the future may call into question the cryptographic security of most blockchain systems, and Ethereum will be able to remain ahead thanks to more sophisticated mathematical techniques to ensure the safety and integrity of its protocols. Buterin is committed to ensuring that Ethereum evolves in a way that not only meets today’s security challenges but also prepares for the unknowns of tomorrow. Also Read: Ethereum Giant The Ether Machine Takes Major Step Toward Going Public! However, in spite of such high ambitions, Buterin insisted that Ethereum also needed to simplify its architecture. An important aspect of this vision is to remove unnecessary complexity and make Ethereum more accessible and maintainable without losing its strong security capabilities. Security and simplicity form the core of Buterin’s strategy, as they guarantee that the users of Ethereum experience both security and smooth processes. Focus on Speed and Efficiency in the Short-Term In the short term, Buterin aims to enhance Ethereum’s transaction efficiency, a crucial step toward improving scalability and reducing transaction costs. These advantages are attributed to the fact that, within the mid-term, Ethereum is planning to enhance the speed of transactions in layer-2 networks. According to Butterin, this is part of Ethereum’s expansion, particularly because there is still more need to use blockchain technology to date. The other important aspect of Ethereum’s development is the layer-2 solutions. Buterin supports an approach in which the layer-2 networks are dependent on layer-1 to perform some essential tasks like data security, proof, and censorship resistance. This will enable the layer-2 systems of Ethereum to be concerned with verifying and sequencing transactions, which will improve the overall speed and efficiency of the network. Ethereum’s Market Stability Reflects Confidence in Long-Term Strategy Ethereum’s market performance has remained solid, with the cryptocurrency holding steady above $4,000. Currently priced at $4,492.15, Ethereum has experienced a slight 0.93% increase over the last 24 hours, while its trading volume surged by 8.72%, reaching $34.14 billion. These figures point to growing investor confidence in Ethereum’s long-term vision. The crypto community remains optimistic about Ethereum’s future, with many predicting the price could rise to $5,500 by mid-October. Buterin’s clear, forward-thinking strategy continues to build trust in Ethereum as one of the most secure and scalable blockchain platforms in the market.
