MUAR, July 5  — “I do not promise the moon and stars, but I promise to work with the people to resolve outstanding issues,” said Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Bukit Naning state constituency, Md Ysahrudin Kusni.

Holding to realistic principles, Md Ysahrudin, who was the former incumbent of the seat, placed the provision of free ambulance services as one of his five main pledges to ease the burden on residents if given a mandate in the Johor state election.

Md Ysahrudin, 47, said the facility is very important due to Bukit Naning’s location being far from Muar Hospital and Batu Pahat Hospital, in addition to the constraints of ambulances at existing health clinics, which are often tied up with other emergency duties.

“As a result, the community has to hire a private ambulance at a cost of around RM400 for one trip. If it is three times, it will be RM1,200. That is very burdensome.

“Therefore, the provision of a free ambulance under the Bukit Naning Representative Service Centre, along with a driver and medical assistant, is offered if given a mandate in this Johor polls,” he told Bernama here recently.

Commenting on his experience, Md Ysahrudin, 47, described his 22 months as a government representative and 22 months as an opposition representative in the last term as the “best school” for understanding the people’s concerns in any political situation.

“I was a representative in 2018. For 22 months I was a government representative and for another 22 months I was an opposition representative.

“In that one term, I was able to experience both situations and know the hardships of being a representative of the people, whether in government or opposition.”

He said that during that period, he managed to oversee the construction of water tanks to overcome low water pressure, especially during the festive season.

However, he admitted there were still areas facing water pressure problems and ageing piping systems that needed immediate solutions.

In addition, Md Ysahrudin said weak internet coverage in several areas was also affecting residents’ daily lives, including students studying from home.

He said the matter had been brought to the attention of Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, who personally inspected the situation in Bukit Naning yesterday.

He also said he would prioritise several delayed projects, including the installation of street lights, the construction of petrol stations, the provision of automated teller machines (ATMs) and improvements to public facilities.

Md Ysahrudin also promised to address the issue of monkey nuisance by increasing the number of traps in frequently affected areas, as well as adding Roll-On Roll-Off (RORO) bins to reduce illegal dumping.

In terms of education, he intends to strengthen community tuition classes and continue one-off assistance for students who successfully enrol in higher education institutions (IPTs).

The Johor polls are seeing a total of 172 candidates contesting 56 state seats, with polling day set for July 11 and early voting on July 7.
